After being humiliated to the tune of 110 points against St. Kilda in Round 13, Essendon made an oath to the football community that this effort was not to be repeated. After a couple of honesty sessions and some seriously hard thinking about how to respond, Coach James Hird suggested there could be a few changes to the side.

The Dons ended up making 4 changes, 2 of those forced:

Going out from the side is Captain Jobe Watson after a shoulder reconstruction surgery, Adam Cooney with another hamstring, Courtenay Dempsey and Elliot Kavanagh both being omitted. In comes some muscle. Playing his first game for the year after some intense tackling in the VFL comes Heath Hocking, debutant Jayden Laverde, more muscle in Patrick Ambrose and finally welcoming Alex Browne after a long recovery from a knee reconstruction.

Melbourne have also made 4 changes, omitting Jimmy Toumpas, Rohan Bail, Jake Spencer and Matt Jones. Replacing them is Heritier Lumumba, Jay Kennedy-Harris, debutant James Harmes and Aaron Vandenberg.

To have any hope of silencing the many critics and making amends for last week's unacceptable performance, Essendon must come out firing. Jobe Watson, Dyson Heppell and Brendon Goddard as well as coaching staff were very clear publicly that the Round 13 performance was never to be repeated and Essendon fans were happy to hear it. Let's hope that eventuates and Essendon come out showing some spirit. Melbourne have been a much improved side in 2015, but certainly not a side that cannot be beaten.

This game also holds extra special meaning, being the Clash For Cancer game. The clash begun in 2006 after the much loved player Adam Ramanauskas was diagnosed with a low grade fibromatosis in his neck. This game holds extra significance to Coach James Hird, Adams former captain so expect the players to be well versed in this games true meaning.

EDIT: Heath Hocking and Jake Melksham are both late omissions from the side. Hocking is having some back pain while Melksham some hamstring trouble. In come Shaun Edwards and Jason Ashby. Jonathon Giles and Kyle Langford named emergencies to replace Edwards and Ashby.
